A marriage register entry for the Parish of Prestonpans tells us that on Friday, December 15, 1848, Isobel's brother, Adam Paden, of Prestonpans and Jemima Coul, of Prestonpans, after due proclamation thrice on the 10th December 1848 were married at Edinburgh by Revd James Begg.

1851 - Census: 9 Downs Place, Edinburgh, Scotland. [6]
Isobel was enumerated by the Scottish Census on Sunday, March 30, 1851, in the Burgh of Edinburgh, Registration District of Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Enumeration District Number 47A. According to her entry on Page 7, Schedule 25 of the archive, she was at 9 Downs Place on census night.
The census record contains the following information about Isobel and the other members of the household:
  • Adam Beattie, head, married, aged 29, a master builder (employing 75 men), born in Edinburgh
  • Margaret Beattie, wife, married, aged 29, born in Tranent, Haddingtonshire
  • William Beattie, son, aged 2, born in Edinburgh
  • Mary Beattie, daughter, aged 7 months, born in Edinburgh
  • Isabella Peden, servant, unmarried, aged 22, a house servant, born in Tranent, Haddingtonshire
9 Downs Place was part of the Civil Parish of Edinburgh St Cuthberts.

1852 - Isobel's Death: . [7]
Isobel's year of death is calculated from her mother's death record in which her offspring are recorded.
Janet Peden died on Wednesday, September 5, 1855, at Prestonpans, at the age of sixty-three, according to her Parish of Prestonpans in the County of Haddington death register entry.
The entry also states that her father was Peter Whitecross (deceased), a coachman; her mother was Janet Whitecross (deceased), formerly Darling; she died of cancer of the face; and her death was not certified by a medical attendant.
The death was reported to registrar William Carse on Thursday, September 6, 1855, in Prestonpans by third son Adam Peden .
Note: Janet was buried in the East Churchyard of Prestonpans. In 1855 death register entries included the names and ages of offspring. In Janets case they were (1)James died aged 20, (2)Janet died aged 8, (3)David age 36, (4)Adam age 34, (5)Peter age 31, (6)Isabella age 26, (7)Jessie age 25 and (8)Ann age 21.
