Adam Peden was born on Friday, May 4, 1821, in Prestonpans, Haddingtonshire, Scotland, the third child and second son of James Peden and Janet Whitecross's seven children.
Adam married Jemima Coull(1824-1908), the daughter of James Coul and Mary Johnstone, on Friday, December 15, 1848 at Edinburgh, Scotland.
Adam Peden died, aged 75, on Wednesday, February 17, 1897 in Prestonpans, Haddingtonshire, Scotland.

Adam's mother, Janet Peden died on Wednesday, September 5, 1855, at Prestonpans, at the age of sixty-three, according to her Parish of Prestonpans in the County of Haddington death register entry.
The entry also states that her father was Peter Whitecross (deceased), a coachman; her mother was Janet Whitecross (deceased), formerly Darling; she died of cancer of the face; and her death was not certified by a medical attendant.
The death was reported to registrar William Carse on Thursday, September 6, 1855, in Prestonpans by third son Adam Peden .
Note: Janet was buried in the East Churchyard of Prestonpans. In 1855 death register entries included the names and ages of offspring. In Janets case they were (1)James died age 20, (2)Janet died age 8, (3)David age 36, (4)Adam age 34, (5)Peter age 31, (6)Isabella died age 26, (7)Jessie age 25 and (8)Ann age 21.

1859 - Marriage of Sister: Prestonpans, Haddingtonshire, Scotland. [12]
A marriage register entry for the Parish of Prestonpans in the County of Haddington tells us that on Friday, February 4, 1859, at Prestonpans, 20-year-old bachelor David Gordon, a labourer, married Adam's sister, 25-year-old spinster Jessie Peden, a servant, after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland.
The register entry also informs us that groom David lived at Tranent; his father was land steward William Gordon and his mother was Agnes Gordon (deceased), formerly Portious. Furthermore, bride Jessie lived at Tranent; her father was labourer James Peden and her mother was Janet Peden, formerly Whitelaw.
Minister John Smithers, performed the ceremony, witnessed by B Ross and Jessie Morrison. The marriage was reported in Prestonpans on Saturday, February 5, 1859, to registrar William Carse.

The death was reported to registrar David McKiver on Monday, January 31, 1870, in Prestonpans by son-in-law Thomas Thomson, who was present at the time of death.
