Biography

Thomas was a Friend (Quaker)

Thomas Parke was born in Ireland about 1660, and married Rebecca Warr (or Warde) in Newgarden, County Carlow, in 1692.[1][2] He appears to have been a farmer, and in the year 1720 owned some land in Balileau, Ballaghmore, and Coolisnactah.[1] Thomas and Rebecca had 10 children:

  1. Mary, b. Sept. 18, 1693, m. Thomas Valentine
  2. Robert, b. March 23, 1694/5, d. Feb. 9, 1737/7
  3. Susanna, b. Dec. 22, 1696
  4. Rebecca, b. Jan 22, 1698/9 m. Hugh Stalker
  5. Rachel, b. Dec. 26, 1700 m. William Robinson
  6. Jean, b. April 6, 1703, d. April 12, 1705
  7. Thomas, b. March 13, 1704/5, d. Oct. 17, 1758
  8. Abel, b. Feb 22, 1706/7, d. July 21, 1757
  9. Jonathan, b. April 18, 1709, d. April 5, 1767
  10. Elizabeth, b. Oct 5, 1711, d. April 16, 1746, m. John Jackson

The family emigrated in 1724 on the ship "Sizargh" of Whitehaven.[1][3] Thomas purchased 500 acres in the Great Valley, near present-day Downington, Pennsylvania. He was an elder of Caln Meeting, and well esteemed by friends. He died on 31 Mar 1739.[1]
