Biography

Órbita Sánchez, was Infanta del Reino de Pamplona (Princess of Pamplona). She was the fifth daughter of Toda Aznárez and Sancho I Garcés, King of Pamplona. [1] Her dates are unknown. An estimation has been made for her birth @ 0910, based on the date estimated for the sister who preceded her, Velasquita Sánchez, (abt 0908 + 2 yrs). Her death date has been estimated @ around 970 (60 years old). Her birth and death places are unknown, but Pamplona, Al-Ándalus (in today's Autonomous Community of Navarre (Navarra)), has been used for both, because of her parents' connections with the area. Nothing is known about her life. One source ties her to Muhammad ibn Abd al-Malik al-Tawil, the founder of Banu al-Tawil, as his wife. [2] The Banu al-Tawil was a short-lived dynasty that would rule Huesca, Barbastro and Lleida, off and on, for a century, eventually losing out to the Banu Tujibi of Zaragoza. In any event, this information is not correct, al-Tawil died in 0913 when she was around 3 years old. Órbita seems to have been confused with Sancha Aznárez, who was his wife and had several children with him. [3] She was the sister of Galindo Aznárez II who was the father of Toda Galíndez, [4] who, incidentally, was the mother of Galindo Bernárdez, de Ribagorza, the second husband of Orbita's sister, Velasquita Sánchez, mentioned previously. Orbita's parents, Toda and Sancho, had six children: [1]

  2. Sancha Sánchez

Her father had another child by an unknown mistress, probably considerably older than her half-siblings above, [1]
