Biography

John was a Friend (Quaker)

John was born 22d 11m 1670/1 [22 Jan 1671].[1][2] He was the son of Joseph and Sarah Palmer.[1]

John Palmer and Rebecca Baxter were married on 31 Oct 1700 in Westchester, New York.[3][4]

John Palmer died in Jan 1748 in Westchester Borough, New York Province

John's will, dated December 30, 1747, leaves to wife Rebecca his lot on the west side of Throggs Neck, bought of Mr. Bailey. To sons Philip and Marcus he leaves salt meadows. To sons Lewis and Benjamin, he leaves his house, all other lands, and 25 pounds privilege in the Sheep Meadow. Also mentioned are sons John, Thomas, and Jeremiah, and daughters Esther and Martha.[5]

  5. Thomas, b. 1704, probably died before 1771, as not in his mother's will
  6. Esther, b. 1707, probably died before 1771, as not in her mother's will
  7. Phoebe, b. 1708, m. Joshua Pell, not listed by Norman Davis
  8. Philip, b. 1710, Westchester, New York, d. 1785, Westchester, New York (Age 75 years)
  9. Marcus, b. 1713, probably died before 1771, as not in his mother's will.
  10. Lewis, b. 1715, not in his mother's will. He removed to and died in Nova Scotia, to join his son Benjamin a United Empire loyalist.
  11. Benjamin, b. 1718, succeeded his brother Joseph as the proprietor of Minneford's.
  12. Martha, b. 1720, married Benjamin Merrell, inherited mother's property on Minefords Island for life, entailed to her daughter Mary
