Biography

Donald was born in 1924. He was the son of Clifford Bishop and Esther Power.

In 1931, Donald, 6 was residing in the old Bishop homestead in Somerset, with his parents, Clifford, farmer, 29, Esther, 27, sister Myrna, 1, his aunt Hilda, teacher, 33, his uncle Frank, labourer, 27 and and his widowed grandfather Arthur, 59.^[1]

Don joined the Royal Canadian Air Force circa 1943 at the age of 18.

After training in Canada, he was assigned to a Royal Air Force bomber crew based in Melbourne, Yorkshire, England. He flew 30 missions between 25 Jun 1944 and the 1 Jan 1945, as the Mid-Upper Gunner in a Halifax bomber. They were part of 10 Squadron, Bomber Command.^[2]

After returning to Canada and marrying Barbara Davis Robinson, he attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, Nova Scotia and McDonald College in St. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science.

Don passed away in the Camp Hill Veterans Unit, Halifax, aged 99 years, 10 months.
