At LaGrande, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1889, of inflammatory rheumatism, John T. OUTHOUSE, age 60. John T. Outhouse was born near St. John, N.B. Nov. 15, 1828. He came to Oregon in 1850 and removed to Union County in 1870. He was married in Polk county May 18, 1865 to Miss Lavena HILDEBRAND who now survives him. Two children were born to them, both of whom are now dead. Gilbert OUTHOUSE, the oldest boy, died in Union in 1879 and Paul OUTHOUSE in 1885. The life of the deceased was intimately associated with prominent incidents of Oregon's early history. He organized and taught the first public school in Portland and for many years followed the avocation of school teaching. He was for a number of years principal of the LaGrande public school; He took a prominent part in politics and in 1885 was appointed receiver of the United States land office at LaGrande, which position he held up to the time of his death. Funeral services were held yesterday morn. from his residence; also at the cemetery at Union where he is buried by the side of his two sons. - The above is from the Gazette of LaGrande, Union Co., Oregon. The deceased is a brother of E.S. OUTHOUSE of Moncton, N.B. He studied at Sackville Academy and was teacher there for a time and also taught the academy at St. Stephen
