Biography

Peter Orme was born in Cheshire, England.

Peter was born before 26 Feb 1815, when he was baptised at St Michael's Macclesfield, the church where his mother and all his siblings were baptised.^[1] He is the son of James Orme and Jane Clarke, the third of twelve children.

Research Notes

• Care is needed as another Peter Orme, son of Samuel Orme, was baptised at Macclesfield only 6 months later on 28 May 1816.
• Peter is not named in the 1841 census of the household of his father, James Orme^[2]
• There is a Peter Orme in Manchester at the time of the 1841 Census. His age is recorded as 26, which probably means it was not rounded down. This would give a birth year of 1814-1815, so would fit. There is as closely corresponding houshold in the 1851 Census that gives Peter's birth place as Nantwich. We must therefore also exclude records that may relate to this Peter Orme.
• I have so far been unable to find a marriage or death record for Peter. I have looked on FamilySearch and findmypast.
• Did Peter die before the 1841 census? I cannot find a burial record. There is a Q3 1841 Macclesfield Death Index record for a Peter Orme (vol.19, p.96) but checking on the GRO website, the age at death was 4, so this is not the correct record.
• Another Peter Orme died in Macclesfiele in 1847, his age at death was 0 years.^[3]
