At the time of the 1871 Census, he was with his father, step-mother and two siblings at Derby, Derbyshire. He was working as a Labourer.[2]
He married Harriet Parker at Derby in 1874.[3][4] Was Harriet a relation of William Parker, husband of Thomas' sister, Elizabeth (Orme) Parker (1851-)?
At the time of the 1881 Census, Thomas (1853) and his 6 year old son, Thomas Orme (1875-1915), were with his father Thomas Orme (1822) at Hope Street, Derby, Derbyshire. Annie Orme (4 years old) was also with them. As yet, it is not clear who's daughter she was (see the Research Notes on Thomas' father's profile). Both Thomas, aged 28 years, and his father were working as Blacksmith's Strikers.[5]

* The 6 year old Thomas has been recorded as son of the head of the household. From other records, it seems that he was actually son of Thomas "Jun" (presumably short for "Junior"), and thus the grandson of the head of the household.
