Biography

Early Life

William Orage, born in Huntingdonshire,^[1] was the son of a farmer, Thomas Orage, and Elizabeth Steverson.^{[2][3][4][5][6]} A drunk who gambled his Cambridgeshire farm,^[7] William would become a school teacher by 1864.^[6]

Family

William, a 31-year-old bachelor and school teacher, married Sarah Ann MacGuire on 2 July 1864 at St Leonard's Parish Church, Shoreditch, Hackney, England.^[6] Jane Cannon is listed as one of the witnesses.^[6] William and Sarah had four children:

Death

With effects under £600, William died aged 40^[7] on 1 October 1874 in Bradford, York, England.^[11] When probate completed on 6 August 1875, his wife, Sarah, was the principal beneficiary of his estate.^[11]
