Biography

Early Life

William Orage, born in Huntingdonshire,[1] was the son of a farmer, Thomas Orage, and Elizabeth Steverson.[2][3][4][5][6] A drunk who gambled his Cambridgeshire farm,[7] William would become a school teacher by 1864.[6]

Family

William, a 31-year-old bachelor and school teacher, married Sarah Ann MacGuire on 2 July 1864 at St Leonard's Parish Church, Shoreditch, Hackney, England.[6] Jane Cannon is listed as one of the witnesses.[6] William and Sarah had four children:

  2. Florence Elizabeth[1][8][9]
  3. Edith Mary[8]
  4. James Alfred[8][10]

Death

With effects under £600, William died aged 40[7] on 1 October 1874 in Bradford, York, England.[11] When probate completed on 6 August 1875, his wife, Sarah, was the principal beneficiary of his estate.[11]
