Biography

Daughter of Anders Nyman and Ingrid Lundgren. Kjersti lost her mother in 1812 and her father remarried the following year.

Kjersti left home in 1817. She married Tufve Mårtensson, but during the first years of their marriage, Kjersti lived with her father and stepmother. In 1823, she returned home from Benestad/Övraby to her father's household at Sandhuset in Sövde parish, and her daughter Ingrid was born there. During this time, her husband, who was a stablehand, lived at his places of work. In 1826-1829, Kjersti and Tufve lived together in Östra Vemmenhög parish, where Tufve worked as a coachman at Dybäck Säteri. In 1829, he took a job as coachman at Odersberga säteri. According to parish records, Kersti and their children did not move there with him but instead moved back to Sövde parish.

In 1830, Kersti and the children moved to Fredriksdal in Råbelöv parish, where Tufve worked as a coachman. While the family lived there, daughter Ingrid died at age 11. The family moved to Färlöv parish in 1834, and moved between places in this parish from then on.

Kersti was widowed in 1864, when her husband died of tuberculosis. At that time, they lived in Areslöv in Färlöv parish, where he worked as a groom. From 1866 to 1875, she lived in the Färlöv poorhouse. From 1875 until her death, she lived with her son Anders and his family in Landskrona.

Research Notes

Andersdotter was her patronymic and Nyman her family name. Both are used for her in records but after marriage she is mainly recorded as Andersdotter. Her Landskrona records at the end of her life list her as Andersdotter. Her husband used her family name Nyman after their marriage. Their children also used her family name.

During her time in Övraby parish, there was a woman working at Övrabyborg there named M Nyman, born 1782 in Ignaberga. Unknown if they were related.
