Melissa (Newport) Reed is a part of US Black heritage.
Melissa (also Malisey) Newport[1] was born about 1813 in Warren[2], Massachusetts[3]. She was the mother of Civil War veterans Charles E. Reed and Joseph W. Reed of the famous 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.
