Mary (Newberry) Clark immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
Mary (Newberry) Clark was born in England.
Mary Newberry was born in 1626 in England. She is the child of Thomas Newberry and Joane Dabinot.[1]Mary was baptized in Whitchurch Canonicorum, Dorset, England on 22 October 1626.[1]She emigrated to Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony with her father and step-mother, Jane (Dabinott) Newberry, in 1634[1] at about age 8. Mary moved with her step-mother and siblings to Windsor, Colony of Connecticut, by 1638.[2]
Between 1645 and 1666, Mary gave birth to ten children: five girls and five boys, eight of which lived to adulthood. The children of Daniel and Mary, all born in Windsor:[5]
Elizabeth (1651 - 1729) m. 1st Moses Cooke in 1669, he died in 1676; m. 2nd Lt. Job Drake in 1677, he died 1711. Elizabeth and Job had a daughter Sarah who married Governor Roger Wolcott. Sarah and Roger had a son Oliver Wolcott who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Nathaniel (1666 - 1690) killed by Natives at age 24 while fighting with the provincial army during King William's War[8]
Mary (Newberry) Clark died in Windsor at about age 61 on August 22, 1688.[9][10] She and Daniel had been married for 43 years. At the time of her death, seven of their eight surviving children were married and beginning families of their own. Mary had ten grandchildren. The five years before her death had seen the marriages of five of her children, with Samuel having been married for less than a year. Although no church record or gravestone survives, Mary is likely buried with other early Windsor settlers in the oldest section of Palisado Cemetery near the current First Church of Windsor.
