Neely, Sr. (1780-1865) & Delilah Sweeney Neely (1784-1851) settled here in 1822 on 3,000 acres and reared 10 children. Property comprised total area of Pipestem St. Park. Nearby, Pipestem Knob is the site of former Neely home and burial grounds. Pipestem Knob Primitive Baptist log church, at east base, on a former Indian trail, was active until relocated for construction of Pipestem State Park.

John Neely's will was written "5th day of March, 1864" [Mercer Co Will Book 1, Pages 187-188, Princeton, Mercer County, West Virginia] and presented in court by the executors "15th day of November 1865"

John Neely's will in Mercer County, West Virginia has him listed as John W .Neely Jr . Which is a legal document , which would make his father John Neely Sr. In that time period it was common for people who were not related but had the same name to differentiate themselves as older or younger by adding Sr or Jr but they were not father and son but not legal documents.

A will for Hannah Betsy Gatliff/Gatlive, died 1826, was located in Giles County ,VA Courthouse. It lists her children as John, James, Elizabeth and Martha Neely ,mentions John's wife Delilah.

John W.Neely married Delilah Sweeney in 1808 and in 1822 was living in Pipestem , Va in Giles county,Va. therefor I edited John's mother and father, Issac and Nancy as uncertain.
