Alpheus Mummert has German Roots.

Alpheus Chauncey J. Mummert, youngest son of Jacob Mummert and Matilda Altland, was born 17 November 1899 in Paradise Township, York County, Pennsylvania.^[1] His father Jacob (age 36, a farmer) and his wife Matilda (39) had seven children—six of whom were still alive and living in Paradise Township in 1900.^[2] The children included Alpheus Chauncey (1), Alice Katherine (10), Charles Elmer (8), Freizer Urias (6), Jacob Peter (5) and Elias James (4).^[2] Matilda's mother Anna Mary Altland (66) also resided with them (she is listed as a brother-in-law, but marked as female.)^[2]

By 1910 the family had relocated to Hamilton, Adams County, Pennsylvania, where Jacob (age 47) continued to cultivate the land with the help of his sons Charles E. (17) and Friezer J. (15).^[3] Tilda (50) kept house and tended the other children: Allice K. (18), Jacob P. (13), Eli J. (11) and Alpheus J. (9).^[3]

About 1915-16 in York County, he married Goldie M. Sharretts,^[4][5] daughter of Madeline and Jesse Sharretts.^{[citation needed]} Alpheus and Goldie had two children:

• Luther Abraham (b. 30 July 1915;^[6] m. Cathleen Elizabeth Sullivan;^[7] d. 23 November 1989).^[6] One daughter: Darlene Mae.

• Robert D. (b. 1 March 1921;^[8] d. 10 October 1983).^[8] He was a veteran of the Second World War.^[9]

Alpheus J. (age 32. laborer in a mechanic's shop) and Goldie M. (33) lived in York, York County, with their sons Luther M. (14) and Robert D. (9) in 1930.^[4] By 1940, Luther (age 24, shipping clerk for a textile mill) had married and was living next to his parents in York.^[10] Alpheus J. (age 40, laborer in a safe manufactory), Goldie M. (41) and Robert D. (19, stock clerk in a retail grocery) remained together.^[10]

Alpheus died in April 1969 in York County^[1] and was buried there at Mount Rose Cemetery.^[11] His wife Goldie died 30 July 1970 and was buried beside him.^{[5] [8] [9] [7] [6] [4] [10] [5] [11] [1] [2] [3]}
