John was born about 1840, [1] a son of Polly (Isley) Moser and Levi Moser.
A "John Moser" is mentioned as a neighboring landowner in the will of Solomon Albright in 1859, but this John seems to be too young for it to be him.
John enlisted in 1861 and served in Company H of the 15th Infantry Regiment, N.C. Troops, and was killed in the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, on December 13, 1862.[2]
