Biography

Lieutenant Jacob Moon Jr. served with Bedford County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Jacob Moon Jr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A079195.

JACOB MOON, Jr.[1], son of Jacob Moon and Jane Rees, was born before 1754.

"Jacob Moon enlisted in Bedford County, Virginia during the Revolutionary War. He served as lieutenant with the Virginia troops and was in Col. Charles Lynch's Virginia Regiment.

Between 28 April 1777 and 28 August 1778, he served as paymaster in a Virginia unit.

He married in the fall of 1778 to Nancy "Ann" Ammon (b abt. 1760 New Kent County, Virginia.

He served until 15 March 1781, when he was killed in the Battle of Guilford Court House.[2]

His widow was pensioned, based upon Jacob's service from 14 April 1837 until her death on 22 May 1841 in Bedford County, Virginia.

Jacob's widow remarried in Bedford County, Virginia a few years later to Samuel Hancock.

Children of Jacob Moon and Ann Ammon:

1. Christopher Moon (b. about 1779) was allowed a pension due to his mother's account based upon his father's Revolutionary War service. His application made after his mother's demise was executed on 24 October 1842 who was residing in Bedford Co., VA in 1845. His attorney at the time of his application was one Ammon Hancock. Relationship is not known, however, one Ammon Hancock b. 1788 in Bedford County, Virginia is given as a half-brother, being son of his mother and 2nd husband, Samuel Hancock.
2. Unknown son born 1781 after his father's death and died in infancy.
