The following obituary was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Advertiser, on 16 May 1952:[9]
A memorial service for the late Mrs. Ada Dawson, who for many years was closely identified with the WCTU in South Australia, will be held in Willard Hall, Wakefield street, at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday. The vice-president of the WCTU (Mrs. W. T. Cooper) will preside and Mrs. H. C. Herbert will lead the service. Mrs. Dawson, who died suddenly on May 11 was born at Kapunda (sic) in 1872, her father being David Moody, member of a pioneer family of the district. After qualifying as a trained nurse, she married Mr. S. L. Dawson, of Marrabel, who predeceased her. They had a family of two daughters and two sons, one of whom, David, is well known in repertory circles in London. In the death of Mrs. Dawson the WCTU has lost a devoted worker and members have lost a very sincere friend. During a membership of more than 30 years, Mrs. Dawson held successively nearly every office in local, district and State unions. She was elected State president in September last year. Through her father's political activities— he was at one time Independent Liberal member for the district of Light— Mrs. Dawson became interested in politics and the legislative aspect of WCTU work. She was a consistent advocate of proportional representation and held office, with Mrs. Jeanne Young, in the organisation working to that end, and also in the Democratic Women's Association. She was a fearless witness to the truth as she saw it, a valued church worker, and a dauntless supporter of the cause of total abstinence. Because of the memorial service, the meeting of the Willard study circle, arranged for next Tuesday, has been cancelled.
