Biography

William Alexander was born in County Londonderry, Ireland during 1819. He is the son of John Moody and Mary Hopkins. He passed away in Bagot Well, South Australia during 1860.

William Alexander was born in Magilligan Parish, County Londonderry, Ireland on 4 February 1819.[1]

William Alexander married Jane Wilson in Portrush, Antrim, Ireland on 3 September 1857. The following marriage notice appeared in the Irish newspaper, The Londonderry Sentinel, on 11 September 1857:[2]

At Portrush Presbyterian Church, on the 3rd inst., by the Rev. Jonathan Simpson, Mr. William Alexander MOODY of Gortmore, Magilligan, to Jane, eldest daughter of Mr. Cochrane WILSON, Ballyreagh, Ballywillan.

William Alexander arrived in South Australia during late 1857 with Jane, his brothers, David and Henry, and Henry's wife Margaret on the ship Lilius.[1]

William Alexander died in Bagot Well, South Australia on 11 January 1860 at the age of 40 years. The following death notice appeared in the South Australian newspaper, The Adelaide Observer, on 21 January 1860: [3]

On the 11th January, at River Light, Kapunda, William A. Moody, formerly of Gortmore House, County Londonderry, Ireland, aged 40 years.

William Alexander was buried at the Truro Cemetery in Truro, South Australia on 13 January 1860.[4]

Notes

  1. William is usually known as "William Alexander" or "W.A." in order to distinguish him from his older brother, William who was born in 1813 and who died in the same year.
