Biography

Charles F. Moody was an American soldier. Moody was a drummer boy in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Charles Moody was born on February 7, 1847, in Portland, Maine. He was the son of Charles R. and Harriet E. Moody. Charles F. Moody passed away in 1914. He was buried at Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, Montana. [1]

Charles F. Moody was a drummer in the 5th Maine Infantry. [2] Charles Moody tried to join several regiments before being accepted in the 5th Regiment. At enlistment, he weighed 83 pounds. [3] On December 15, 1861, Charles Moody, age 14, enlisted as a drummer in the 5th Maine Infantry. During his service, Moody served in Companies A and H of the 5th Regiment. [4]

Moody was present at the Battle of Gettysburg as a drummer in Company H, 5th Maine. [3]
