1 Nov 1843, he and Harriett Newell Barnett (sic) (Barrett) were married in Spanish Town, Jamaica.[2] At least their youngest two children were born in Jamaica. The older children were born in England.

Either they had a daughter named Harriett Newell Milne or else on the occasion of christening son John Vine Milne, William's wife was baptized: Janet Newell Milne, christened 4 Mar 1845[3]

In the 1851 Baldock, Hertfordshire England census at Norton Street, we find William Milne, 35, of Scotland, (Independent Minister M A) and his wife Harriet Newell (Barrett) Milne, 30, of Salisbury, Wiltshire. A servant, Eliza Watts, 18, of Newnham, Hertfordshire, and three children make up the household.[4] Among their children were:

  1. John Vine Milne, 6, of Jamaica christened 1845[5]
  2. Robert Milne, 2, of Jamaica
  3. Alexander Milne, 0, of Baldock, Hertfordshire

In the 1861 Tottenham, Middlesex household in Northumberland Park Grove, the following children are present with the parents:[6]

* John (Robert) Milne, 12, of Clandon, Jamaica
* Alexander Milne, 10, of Baldock
  1. Maud (David) Milne, 9, of Baldock
  2. N Milne, 6, of Clandon
  3. J Milne (female), 6, of St Alban, Hertfordshire
  4. (William) J Milne (male), 2, of (Bushby), Hertfordshire

Beginning with the 1871 census, William Milne is a School Master in Braintree, Essex (the prior census noted "... Of Schools M A"). NOTE: The transcriber apparently thought his name to be Milne William, and thus everyone is presently shown in the detail as having the surname William instead of Milne. Harritt (sic) his wife, servants Rose Edwards, 23 of Stisted, Essex and Elizabeth Rutcher, 18, of Toppesfield, and six male students are named on the record. The children named are:[7]

* John Vine Milne, 26
* Robrt Milne, 22
* Alexander Milne, 20
* David Milne, 19
* William J Milne, 13

No death record has been located. His last residence of Braintree, Essex was reflected in the 1871 census.
