DEATH. 19 Oct 1910, 171 James-street, Perth, Western Australia, Australia

DEATH REPORT. SUPPOSED SUICIDE. END OF A DRINKING BOUT. Shortly before 9 o'clock yesterday morning Robert Alexander Meldrum, aged 50 years, was found dead in the kitchen of 171 James-street, where he bad been lodging for some time, under circumstances which pointed to suicide by poisoning. On the table was a note which had been addressed by the deceased to a relative, and near by were a paper containing a white powder (believed to be poison) and a tumbler containing a white sediment. The body was removed to the morgue, where a post-mortem examination was made and the contents of the stomach were forwarded to the Government Analyst. An inquest was opened before Mr. W. H. McCormark, J.P., and a jury, and after the body had been identified by Robert Mason the inquiry was adjourned to October 27 at 2.30 p.m. The deceased had lately been employed by Messrs. Cuming, Smith and Co., .of Guildford. It is understood that he had recently left his wife and family at Cue. He had, it is stated, been drinking heavily for the past three weeks.
