He came to Pennsylvania in 1767 along with his brother John and were located in the Juniata Settlement. They settle in Cumberland Valley, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
He married Martha Hogue in 1778 in Juniata Valley[2]

In 1790, Thomas was living in Mifflin, Pennsylvania. His household on the 1790 US Census consisted of 4 males under 16, 1 male over 16 and 4 females.[7]
In 1810, Thomas was living in Butler, Butler, Pennsylvania. His household on the 1810 Census shows 2 males 10-15, 3 males 16-25, 1 male 26-44, 1 male 45 and over, 1 female 16-25, 1 female 26-44, 1 female 45 and over.[8]
In the Centennial Discourse: "A Sketch of the History of Venango County, Pennsylvannia" delivered at Franklin, PA., July 4th, 1876 by S. J. M. Eaton, D.D., published by the Venango Spectator Job Office in Franklin, PA., 1876 #23997 it states, "Scrubgrass township was one of the first points in the area to be settled outside of Franklin. Thomas McKee came in 1796."
He came to America in 1774 and At the commencement of the struggle for Independence, he entered the service, and was under Morgan in the Southern campaign, in the Pennsylvania company attached to the corps of that brave partisan leader. His canteen and powder horn, carried through the war, are in the possession of his grandson Lieut. Col. J. Cooper McKee, Surgeon, U.S.A. In 1795 the family removed to Allegheny County, Penn. and the year following 1796 permanently settled on a farm near Butler, Butler County, that state.
