Faythe was born in 1917 to Gilbert McGinnis and Ella Wiley. He grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma and attended Langston University where he was an assistant coach in football and basketball. [1] Faythe was one of the first Tuskegee airmen in the pilot program in 1942, receiving his wings and commission on July 3. He was assigned to the 99th Squadron. On September 12, 1942, he was performing a routine training flight at the school when he suffered a fatal crash. His plane plunged into Soughalachoe Creek near Tuskegee. He had completed his primary and secondary training at the Civil Aeronautics program at the Tuskegee Institute. He is buried at Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee, Oklahoma.[2]
