Dear Germany Project member,

it's annual check-in time 2023. If you still wish to remain a member of the Germany Project, please reply to this post, by stating this intention. If we don’t hear from you in the next 30 days, your membership badge will be removed. In this case please don't be offended ... you're welcome to rejoin at any time. Please also note, that in order to receive help, with researching your German ancestors, membership is not mandatory. Just ask your questions in the G2G forum and tag them with Germany in order for knowledgeable people to see them.

If you wish to remain a member, we would like to learn more about your perception of the Germany Project in order to achieve a future development according to our members needs and wishes. For this, we created a survey, which we kindly ask you to fill-in.

In case you want to communicate, discuss and receive help about WikiTree in German, you might want to check out the WikiTree category at Compgen’s Discourse as well as the German Discord server Ahnenforschung.

Of course there’s still the official WikiTree Discord server, where we usually talk English. Feel free to learn more about Discord and the server at Help:Discord.

Kind regards from Black Forest

Hi Kathleen,

I wanted to touch base and see if you have any questions about the Germany Project. Have you read the main Project page? Most of the basic info on the Project will be linked to that page, here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Germany.

I see that you've joined our Google Group (thank you!). You can ask questions relating to German genealogy there as well as on G2G. Also, as a project member, you can join us and chat in real-time on Discord. More info on joining Discord is available on the main project page.

Have you checked out our teams? We encourage you to join at least one of them. Just let me know what interests you and there's probably a team for that!

Do you have any suggestions on how we might improve the project? Are there any new teams or resource pages you’d like to see created? I am always available to answer questions as is my co-leader, Dieter. Just let us know if you need anything!

Best regards, Traci ~Germany Project co-leader

Hello Traci!

Thank you for getting in touch. I'm sorry that it took me so long to reply. I don't have much time to devote to genealogy, as much as I love it!

Right now I am working on my PIP voyage. I actually chose my great-grandfather's profile, Hinrich Viebrock (Viebrock-18). He was from Plönjeshausen in Lower Saxony near Bevern. Any help on sources would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone would be interested in trying to translate some letters from his family. They are in Low German and a distant cousin did provide translations but he was unable to decipher some parts of the letters. These letters are very newsy and may be resources for others.

I would like to join a team that relates to my family, either Lower Saxony where Hinrich is from and/or the area of Gdansk, Poland where his wife, Margareth Pleger's father was from.

I don't know any other language besides English but let me know how I may be useful in my limited way.

Thank you again!, Kathleen

Thanks for responding Kathleen! I will add you to the Lower Saxony Team for now. You may also be interested in our Prussia Team. I think Gdansk was a part of Prussia for a time - I could be wrong though. When you have time, check out the team page (team pages are linked to the main project page in my previous comment).

Our Google Group and Discord Group are wonderful places to ask for help getting translations done and deciphering old script. Check them out when you have time.

Best regards, Traci

Yes, Gdansk (then Danzig) was in Prussia, so I would recommend Prussia Team in addition to Lower Saxony Team, which I see that she is now a part of.

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for joining the Germany Project! I've awarded you a project member badge. When you have a chance, please do the following:

1. Read the main Germany Project Page (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Germany) to familiarize yourself with what we do and what is required of project members.

2. Submit a join request to our Google Group (https://groups.google.com/g/wikitreegermanroots), where our project communicates. **Please make sure to add your name and WikiTree ID** to the request so we can get you set up.

3. Join a Team: On our main project page, we have listed several teams that cover regional, functional, historical and migrational interests. You might find that one of our 16 regional teams may be a good fit. Simply post a comment on the Team page to join whichever team suits you.

We look forward to working with you! Please feel free to contact me with any questions any time.

Thanks! Traci Thiessen ~ Germany Project co-leader

Hello Kathleen,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Based on your recent contributions (just under your name at the top), I would like to suggest that the Native Americans Project could fit your current research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Please take your time. Accuracy is so much more important than speed on WikiTree. And please add locations, dates, and at least one reliable source to each profile, particularly any pre-1700s profile, before you leave it. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Have questions? Reply to this comment or ask in the comments section of my profile.

 :)

Hi Kathleen,

Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. You will get the best results if you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, try a different one. 24 hours after you make each connection to an existing profile, your test information will have populated on the profile of the newly connected ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.

Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!
