Biography

Harrison was born on 26 Dec 1891 in Reevesville, Johnson County, Illinois^[1] - adjacent to Pope County. He was probably the son of Joseph McCool. See Research Notes for discussion of his parents.

No 1900 census record has been found for Harrison. He does not appear with his presumed mother and siblings (he would have been age 8).

In the 1910 census Harrison (age 18) was the single hired man of Frank J Coker in Shelby, Shelby, Iowa, United States.^[2]

Harry served as a Private in Co B 38 Infantry during World War I.^[1]

Harry (age 28), son of Theodore McCool & Mary Evans, married Irene M. Stevens (age 22y) in 1922 in Polk, Iowa, United States.^[3] In his marriage record, his parents are named as Theodore McCool (who has died) and Mary Evans. Evans might be the second married name of his mother, but this is speculation. They had three sons and one daughter together:

2. Wilbur Malcolm McCool (1924-2002)
3. Marvin Lynn McCool (1927-2019)

In the 1930 census Harry (age 40) was the married head of household in Tennant, Shelby, Iowa, United States.^[4]

In the 1940 census Harry (age 49) was the married head of household in Tennant, Shelby, Iowa, United States.^[5]

In the 1950 census Harry (age 58), Farmer, was the married head of household in Tennant, Shelby, Iowa, United States.^[6]

Harrison died (age 73) on 22 Nov 1965^[1] in Shelby, Shelby, Iowa, United States.^[7][8] He was buried in Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, Shelby County, Iowa.^[1]

Research Notes

In the 1900 census, Harry does not appear with his presumed siblings or mother Mary (age 37). Mary was the widowed head of household in Benton Precinct, Massac, Illinois, United States.^[9] Massac County is adjacent to Johnson and Pope counties in southernmost Illinois.

However, Harry's sister, Susanna (McCool) Mohr (1892-), did appear in that Census. Susan also named her parents as Theodore McCool and Mary Evans in her marriage record. For this reason, we think we have the correct parents for Harry (and Susan).

Harry's son Larry Steven McCool was born on 13 February 1923 in Shelby, Iowa, United States.^[10][11]

Harry's son Wilbur Malcolm Mc Cool was born on 1 November 1924 in Shelby, Iowa, United States.^[12][13][14]

Harrison's son Marvin Lynn McCool was born on 30 August 1927 in Tennant, Shelby, Iowa, United States.^[15][16]

Harry was in the military and died on 22 November 1965 in St. Louis, Missouri, United States.^[17]
