Biography

Ellen was born about 1857. She was the daughter of Owen McCaw. She passed away in 1878. The only source information currently for Ellen is her death certificate issued in New South Wales. Based on this, she was born in Ireland to parents Owen McCaw and Mary Duhie (also spelt Dooghan and Dooghey elsewhere in sibling's records). Ellen moved to New South Wales in 1876, just 2 years before her death), but we don't know when she came to Australia. Her brother Michael had come to Australia around 1856 and moved to New South Wales in 1872 (according to his death certificate).

Ellen was a servant and died in St Vincent's Hospital Sydney from typhoid fever, an illness endemic in poor parts of the town at the time. Her brother Michael would die of the same 4 years later.

It seems that the 3 siblings kept in touch, as brother Michael was informant to her death and brother Thomas was informant for Michael's death. Michael advertised a funeral notice for her funeral in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Ellen was not married and had no children.
