Biography
Amanda (McCargo) Collins is a part of US Black heritage.
Amanda was born in 1867 in Charlotte County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Wyatt McCargo and Martha Snead. She was raised by her parents first in Charlotte County and then Halifax County, Virginia where her father farmed. She married Elam Collins in Halifax in 1888. In 1900 she and Elam where living in Roanoke, Halifax County where Elam farmed. At that time Amanda was noted to have had 8 children, with 5 living. She was apparently widowed prior to 1907, when she married Peter McCargo in Richmond, Virginia. In 1910 and 1920 Amanda and Peter are living in Richmond where Peter worked in a railway shop. Peter passed away in 1927. Amanda was still living in Richmond in 1940. She passed away in Richmond in 1943 and was buried in Woodland Cemetery.
