Biography

William McCaleb was born in Lochaber, Inverness-shire, Scotland in 1695.^[1]

He married Mary McDonnell (of the McDonalds of Keppoch) in 1714,^[2] and had four sons, all of whom emigrated to America:

1. William Neil McCaleb (b. 1715, d. 1775) m. Sarah McAlpin, emigrated to South Carolina.
2. James McCaleb (b. 1720), emigrated to North Carolina.
3. John McCaleb (b. 1722), emigrated to Pennsylvania.
4. Enos (Aeneas) McCaleb (b. 1735, d. 1803 or 1811), emigrated to Virginia.

Living to be over 100 years old, William McCaleb died in Glengarry in 1803.
