George W. McBee was born 13 May 1835 in Stark County, Ohio, United States. In 1836, his family moved from Ohio to Ray County, Missouri, United States. In 1852, his family moved again, this time from Missouri to Oregon on the Oregon Trail. They settled in Benton County, Oregon Territory. After George grew into adulthood, he purchased land from his older brother, John Wesley McBee, and started his own farm. About 1865, he married Missouri Elizabeth Porter. They had four children: Mary Elizabeth, William Henry, Annie, and Rosa. Elizabeth died in 1875 at age 24; George died 4 years later at age 43. They left three minor children as orphans (Annie had died in infancy). George's widowed sister, Elizabeth McBee Linebarger, and her two children moved into George's house and she raised the orphans although their uncle, Joseph McBee, was their legal guardian.

McBee, aged 43 years, 8 months and 5 days. Deceased was born in Stark county, Ohio, and came across the plains to Oregon in 1852, and settled in Benton county, where he continuously resided until removed by death. Was married to Miss Missouri E. Porter, Oct. 13, 1864, who died Sept. 2, 1875. Mr. McBee was an honorable, upright man, a good citizen, kind friend and neighbor, and leaves three children, and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. His disease was typhoid pneumonia, and lived only nine days after being taken sick -- cut down in the very prime of life. Surely, in "the midst of life we are in death."
