Biography

Dorothy May Mayer was born on April 22, 1922, in Horicon, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Arthur Mayer and Matilda Brophey. She married Miles Henry Mike Beardsley on August 7, 1942, in Juneau, Wisconsin. They had four children during their marriage. She died on July 13, 2011, in Union Grove, Wisconsin, at the age of 89, and was buried in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin.

RACINE - Dorothy May (nee: Mayer) Beardsley, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Oak Ridge Care Center in Union Grove.

She was born in Horicon on April 22, 1922, the daughter of the late Arthur G. and Mathilda (nee: Brophey) Mayer. On August 7, 1942, in Juneau, she was united in marriage to Miles H. 'Mike' Beardsley.

Dorothy was a 1940 graduate of Horicon High School. Dorothy was a homemaker. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, sewing, decorating, cooking, baking, and canning. She also enjoyed gambling and her many trips to Las Vegas, Nev.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Darlene 'Charlie' (Ray) Christiansen of Union Grove; sons, John (Chris) Beardsley of Racine and Jack (Gretchen) Beardsley of Caledonia; 11 grandchildren, Ted (Colleen) Beardsley, Lisa (Scott) Morton, Amy Beardsley, Cory Wagner, Candee Beardsley, John Beardsley Jr., Vanessa Hetchler, Michael (Jessica) Hetland, Matthew (Sandra) Christiansen, Melissa Christiansen, and Emily Christiansen; and numerous great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Mike on November 23, 1999; daughter, Betty Jane Bergman in 1986; and a grandson, Daniel Christiansen in 1989.

Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday, July 17, 2011, at 3 p.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in a private ceremony at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Sunday before services from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorothy's memory to the Parkinson Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018, have been suggested.
