Nazaire was born in Quebec in April of 1869, second son of Nazaire Matte and Élizabeth Légaré. He married twice. His first marriage was to Mélina Caron on 4 July 1892 in Montréal. Mélina died in July, 1907. This marriage produced four children, Albina, Nazaire, Jeanne, and Antonette. Nazaire remarried to Helene Brunet on 27 Apr 1908 in St-Jovite . They had a son, Eldor. Nazaire Matte passed away in 1945.
