Biography

Sam was born in Pennsylvania in about 1818. He married Elisabeth/Elizabeth Ann Ambrose about 1843 (based on dob of eldest child). They had a large family.[1][2][3]

He was appointed Postmaster for Pine Township, Armstrong, Pennsylvania on 4 Mar 1856.[4] He seems to have been a prominent person in Armstrong County. There are multiple listings for Samuel Mateer in History of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.[5] And in Beers' Armstrong Co., Pennsylvania.[3]

Sam died in 1900 in Armstrong Co., Pennsylvania and is buried there.[6]
