Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
Hi Hilary, I want to make sure you know that inline citations have to go above the sources heading for the coding to work. You'll see I moved it on this profile so you can now see the source https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Weiseger-13 You're doing great work! Emma
Thank you for joining the November USBH Connecting Challenge and helping us create 4748 new profiles! Our new total is 153,062. We’re going for 250,000 profiles next!
Hi Hilary. Thanks for your email about the Mayfield Cemetery. Actually, I'm not making a one place study about the cemetery. I was looking to add a profile to it and got confused because Find A Grave says it's in Cleveland Heights, whereas the WikiTree category structure says it's in Cleveland. So I ended up creating a category for the cemetery in Cleveland Heights which according to WikiTree protocol should be deleted.
The person I entered into the Mayfield Cemetery category was Rosa R. Livingston Huebschman. Her Livingston family was the connection I needed to find in order to connect a large African-American branch I was working on. That branch is now connected.
Hi Margaret, Congratulations on making your connection! It's inspiring. Thanks for sharing Rosa's profile. I'm new and just realized I should be adding categories as I go along so I'm in the habit when I start working on the USBH project. I took a look at Rosa's profile. I would love to know more about her life - what brought her here....

One suggestion is to only add one person at a time to get the hang of things, another is to add a gedcom file. There are about 530 people in my file. Which is the right option? Thank you!

Personally, I have entered one person at a time. With gedcom imports, there’s a lot of cleaning up of profiles to do as some things, such as sources, do not transfer well. Also, for me, creating one profile at a time gives me the opportunity to make sure the profile is fully sourced before moving on to the next.
Thanks, Pip. That’s what I needed to hear. I’m cleaning up my Family Tree Maker/Ancestry tree now and will add people one at a time as I review the data. Is there a particular number of required sources for each person? Can there be too many sources? Is there a preferred WikiTree format? Thank you so much for your help!
H, I include only those sources that pertain to a particular person directly. Census records, marriage(s), death, Bible entries if needed to prove a date, military, etc. That way, when I get ready to write a biography, all the necessary sources are already on the profile. Here’s an example of one bio I finished the other day:
Granted, I have not written biographies for a vast majority of the profiles I’ve created, but once in a while I do. Nearly all of the 9000+ profiles I’ve created over the past 4.5 years only have the sources I could find.
Thank you, Pip! I've been working on short biographies for people and needed some parameters. Your example is excellent--factual and interesting. I can't imagine how you've created 9000 profiles. I thought cleaning up my 550+ member tree was overwhelming! Thanks again.
