Biography

Sarah Ann's Preferred First Name was Anne, and she was also affectionately known as Sally. ^[1]

Anne was born 1 May 1894 at 17 Ballance Road, Homerton, Hackney, London, England. Her father was a Sewing Machine Salesman. ^{[2] [3]} Tragically, her mother died 13 days after Anne's birth. ^[4]

On 7 Feb 1897, after her father remarried, Anne was baptized at Harrow Green, Holy Trinity Church, Essex. ^[5]

Anne's family lived at 54 North Birkbeck Road, Leyton, Essex at the time of the 1901 Census. By then, her father was an Insurance Agent. ^[6]

Two years later, when her brother Frank Moulton Martin was born, the family had moved to Brighton, Sussex. ^[7]

They were still in Brighton in 1911, living at 9 Egremont Place. Anne was working as a Milliner, and her father was Superintendent, Hearts of Oak Assurance. ^[8]

At the age of 19, along with her family, Anne sailed aboard the Empress of Ireland from Liverpool, Lancashire, England to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, arriving 20 June 1913, on their way to join her father in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The passenger list showed her occupation as Domestic. ^[9] Anne's future husband Arthur William Kerslake accompanied the group. ^{[10] [11]}

She married Arthur on 25 May 1914 at the Pro Cathedral in Calgary, Alberta. At the time, they were living at 614 – 14th Avenue E., Calgary. ^{[12] [13]}

Anne and Arthur lived in Vancouver, British Columbia in October 1923, when Anne’s brother Frank arrived in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. and listed Anne as a contact at his previous place of residence. ^[14]

The following year, they were Witnesses at Frank’s marriage to Grace Elizabeth Foreman in Tacoma, Washington. ^[15]

By 1926, Anne, Arthur, and their children had moved to Seattle, where they lived at 3834 Evanston Avenue. ^[16]

Having returned to Canada, they settled in what was then South Saanich, British Columbia, where they rented a 4-room semi-detached house at 1930 Haultain Street, according to the 1931 Census. It was noted that they had a radio. ^[17]

They lived at 534 Michigan Street, Victoria, British Columbia in 1935. ^[18]

Ten years later, they resided at 1348 Hillside Avenue, Victoria. ^[19]

By 1957, their address was 1045 Tattersall Drive, Saanich. ^[20]

Anne died 30 November 1966 in Saanich at the age of 72. ^[21]
