Edo Merselis was born on January 27, 1729, in Bergen, New Jersey to Peter Merselis and his wife, Jenneke Preyer. He married Ariaentje Sip on April 11, 1754, in his hometown. They had nine children in 19 years. He died on October 12, 1799, in Bergen, New Jersey, at the age of 70, and was buried in Preakness, New Jersey.

He is said to have been the first Merselis to settle in what afterward became Wayne township, where he had a large and valuable tract of land which, after his death, was divided into several small farms.

Edo Merselis was born on January 27, 1729, in Bergen, New Jersey, to Jenneke Preyer, age 29, and Peter Merselis, age 41.[1]

Marriage

Edo Merselis married Ariaentje Sip in Bergen, New Jersey, on April 11, 1754, when he was 25 years old.[2][1]

Property

Bought from Robert Hunter Morris of Monmouth County, on 10 November 1759, 69 34/100 acres in Preakness (Wayne), New Jersey.[3]

Bought from Thomas Hennion and John Berdan, on 22 March 1769, 210 acres in Preakness (Wayne), New Jersey.[3]

Elected

Edo was elected Freeholder of Bergen County, New Jersey in 1763 and served until 1784.[3]

Patriotic Service during the American Revolution

Deputy to the Provincial Congress, New Jersey. [4]

Death

Edo Merselis died on October 12, 1799, in Bergen, New Jersey, when he was 70 years old.[5][1]

Burial

Edo was buried in the Old Burying Ground, behind Preakness Reformed Church, Preakness, Passaic, New Jersey.[5]
