Research Notes

Elizabeth's father was John Mann, who was a son of Robert Mann who died about 1757/58 and this Robert Mann was a brother of John Mann who died in 1758. Elizabeth was a cousin to Leah Burgin (John's mother). The following is from Peggy Silvers Book Echoes in the Mist:

  • John Mann died ca. 1758, Rowan Co., North Carolina. Brother Robert Mann

Robert died ca. 1757/8, leaving at least 3 minor children: John, Else (Alse), and Mary. John later married Elizabeth ________. They had a daughter, Elizabeth, who married John Burgin. Else Mann, daughter of Robert and sister of John, married Henry Wright, November 17, 1771, Rowan Col, North Carolina. Their daughter Gean (Jean) later married James Burgin. The Wrights and the Mann family are entangled with the Burgin family even in Maryland records.[5]

Echoes In The Mist
John Burgin married his cousin Leah Mann (11) August 31, 1797 in Burke County (9) N.C. Elizabeth, better known as Leah, was born September 29, 1777. Leah was the daughter of John Mann and granddaughter of Robert Mann of Rowan Co. (11) .

After John died Robert lived with his mother, as did John Mann, her brother. They were all in the same household in the 1850 census of McDowell County. On September 28, 1850 Leah and son Robert came to an agreement (14) whereas Leah agreed to give Robert all the land she processed, the negroes, all of the negro Hannah's increase (children that Hannah might have from that date forward) and all the crops and rents in exchange for her care and maintenance for the remainder of her life. She was 73 years old at that time. Leah passed away October 4, 1862. If she is buried beside John, her grave is unmarked. There is no stone for her there. John and Leah had 12 children.[6]

Please father's death info. He died many years before Elizabeth was born.

Mann-5599 and Mann-1025 are not ready to be merged because: Date of fathers death was listed years before Elizabeth's birth

Mann-5599 and Mann-1025 appear to represent the same person because: Same husband, residence location in one profile same as death location in the other.
