Alexander Mackay was born in Scotland.

Alexander Mackay was born in 1806 in Tongue, Sutherlandshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. He was the son of Donald Mackay, a farmer in the parish of Durness, and his wife, Janet McCloud.[1]

He married Barbara Mackay in 1837 in Tongue, Sutherlandshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.[2]

As a government-bond farm servant, Alexander migrated to Australia on the James Moran, with his wife Barbara Mackay and his one-year-old son, John. They left Loch Inver, Scotland on 21 October 1838, arriving in Port Jackson 11 February 1839. [3] [4] [5]

He died on 5 February 1884 at the Macleay River, near Kempsey, in the Colony of New South Wales. [6] [7]

Research Notes

On Alexander's Immigration documents, he is shown as aged 29 on embarkation in 1838, giving a birth date about 1809. This differs from the baptism record cited above. Other details, including parents, and place of birth, agree.
