Sarah (Lynn) Patton was born between 1663 and 1670, perhaps around 1664, reportedly in Kilmacrennan in Ulster Province, Ireland. Kilmacrennan is a village in County Donegal, a county of Ulster. Sarah is claimed in some places to be the daughter of David or William David Lynn and Margaret (Patton) Lynn,[1] but there is no evidence for the claim.
The man listed here as Sarah’s brother William Lynn wrote his will in 1757. In it, he named not only siblings who were still living but also siblings who had died, making bequests to living siblings and to children of those deceased, and stated whether each sibling and/or their surviving child or children were living in Virginia, still in Ireland, or in London in one case. While Sarah died the same year William wrote his will, neither she nor any of her children were named. The only siblings William named are ...
"my Brother Charles in Ireland"
"my Brother Audley Lynn, Dec'd [daughter Ann living in London]"
"my sister Elizabeth Hutchenson in Ireland"
"my sister [blank] Lewis & my Nephews ... all of Augusta Co. [Virginia]"[2]
A photocopy and transcript of William Lynn's 1757 will are on his profile. The last sister mentioned in the will is proven to be Margaret (Lynn) Lewis, wife of John Lewis, founder of Staunton, Augusta County.
Sarah (Lynn) Patton's middle name may have been Cameron.[3] It is likely that her marriage to Henry Patton occurred in 1685.[4]
Sarah is believed to have died in 1757 in Newtown Limavady, County Londonderry, Ireland

Robert (Preston), the youngest of these, married Margaret Bothwell and went to Ireland to live. They had six sons of whom Archibald, (named for his grandfather) claims our particular interest. Archibald (Preton) was also the father of six sons and several daughters. One of the younger of the six married Elizabeth Patton, daughter of Henry Patton of Newtown, and his wife Sarah Osborne. The eldest Patton son was an officer in the King's Navy and became much interested in the colonies of America. This Colonel James Patton, having been given a tremendous acreage in the Colony of Virginia if he would settle thereon worthy British citizens, proved himself a fine land agent; and in a few years had brought to Virginia a great army of Scotch-Irish Presbyterians who came to find a home in the vast wilderness, to establish their families and to build a nation. Among these were Prestons, Breckenridges, Lewises, Campbells, McClungs, McCarthys, Grahams, Ingles, Drapers, and others whose names are bound up in the history of Virginia, and especally the great Southwest Virginis.;Preston Gray, Elizabeth, General Francis Preston, p. 2 Historical Society of Washington County, Virginia (April 1937)

The man listed as Sarahs brother William Lynn wrote his will in 1757 and was careful to name not only those siblings of his who were still living but also those who had died, and there is no mention of a sister matching Sarah. He even stated whether each sibling or their surviving child[ren] were living somewhere in Virginia or still in Ireland (or in London in one case). A photocopy and transcript of Dr. Lynns 1757 will are at [1].
