Daniel Henderson Lusk was born in 1832, in Scotland. He was the son of Robert Lusk and Jessie Hart.
His mother passed away in 1841.
In November 1849, along with his father and four siblings, he arrived in New Zealand, aged 16, on the Ship Thames.[1]
He was a Surveyor and Civil Engineer, of Grafton Road and St Stephen's Road, Parnell, Auckland. D H Lusk helped to lay out the City of Christchurch in 1851.
He fought in the New Zealand Wars 1860-1861 and was involved in the following Campaigns:
Daniel gained the rank of Major. A photo of him in uniform can be seen here [1].
On 8 July 1864 at Mangonui, by Rev John Duffus MA, he married Ellen Henrietta Butler the 2nd daughter of William Butler, Esq, MGA, and Eliza Merritt, of Mangonui, Northland, with issue seven children.
In 1919 he was the only surviving son-in-law of Eliza Merritt Butler.
He died suddenly on 11 June 1921 at Helensville, Auckland, in his 89th year. He was buried on 13 June 1921 in Purewa Cemetery, Meadowbank, Auckland, New Zealand. Location: Block A, Row 5, Plot 46[2]
