William Blaine Luetkemeyer, born on May 7, 1952, is an American politician who now holds the position of U.S. congressman for Missouri's 3rd congressional district. He has been in this role since 2009. Luetkemeyer, a Republican, previously held a position as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives. He is the son of William Luetkemeyer and Carmen Bax. William is still living.
Luetkemeyer was born in Jefferson City on May 7, 1952. He enrolled at Lincoln University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Business Administration.[1]
A farmer for his entire life, Luetkemeyer has also owned several small enterprises, managed a bank, and worked as an insurance agent. In addition, he was a member of the board of trustees for the village of St. Elizabeth, which is close to Osage Beach.
Luetkemeyer was elected as the representative for the 115th Legislative District in the Missouri House of Representatives in 1998.[2] In his capacity as a state representative, Luetkemeyer held the position of chairperson for the Financial Services Committee and the House Republican Caucus. Additionally, he supported a statewide constitutional amendment that explicitly defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman. This amendment received the approval of 71% of Missouri voters in 2004. In addition, he contributed to the development of legislation that permitted residents of Missouri to possess concealed weapons, prohibited partial-birth abortions, and restructured worker compensation rules. Furthermore, he advocated for the liberalization of the financial sector, particularly about the lending industry. In 2004, Luetkemeyer opted not to run for reelection and joined a group of seven Republicans vying for the state treasurer position. He placed second in the Republican primary, defeated by Sarah Steelman, who emerged victorious in the general election. In 2005, Governor Matt Blunt designated Luetkemeyer as the Missouri Tourism Director, a position he occupied until his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008.
Luetkemeyer's district, presently designated as the 3rd, was previously identified as the 9th from 2009 to 2013. This region encompasses the majority of east-central Missouri, which includes Jefferson City, as well as certain suburbs and exurbs in both the southern and northern areas of St. Louis.
Luetkemeyer proposed H.R. 3329 on October 23, 2013, during the 113th Congress. This bill aimed to improve the capacity of community financial institutions to promote economic growth and support their communities while also stimulating small enterprises and encouraging personal savings.[3]
Luetkemeyer has been married to his spouse, Jackie, since 1976. The couple has three offspring and six descendants from their children. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Eldon Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau, and the National Rifle Association of America. He attends St. Lawrence Catholic Church.[4]
