Huldah was born 15 October 1767 in Goshen, Connecticut. She was the daughter of David Lucas and Sarah Stanley. She had at least 3 other siblings, Oliver, Sally and Nathaniel Lucas.
They lived with David Lucas, her father, at Canajoharie, New York, until after the birth of their first child, Harvey W.. Then they moved to Fort Herkimer (German Flats), where Joel Doolittle had purchased a tract of land. Here he built a home and raised his family.

Husband's Death and hers
Her husband died March 20, 1813, while on a trip to Sacketts Harbor, and she survived him until June 14, 1826.
She was buried in Ellisburg Rural Cemetery
