Born enslaved in North Carolina in 1822, after he was free he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he worked as a barber. He was active in the abolitionist movement. He served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1878-1880.
In 1860, the Lowther family lived in Milford Massachusetts.[1]
His parents were William and Polly Lowther.
