Biography

Barnard was born in 1769. He was the son of Johanes Lauman and Magdalena Zentmeyer. He passed away in 1846. [1]

Obituary, Staunton Spectator

Departed this life on Monday night the 23d ult., at his residence in Middlebrook, of Paralysis, Mr. Barnhard Lowman, in the 78th year of his age.
Father Lowman was one of the oldest and most esteemed residents of this county and town; having moved to this county about the year 1796 from Pennsylvania. He held the office of Post Master upwards of 40 years, during all of which time, he filled the office with fidelity and general acceptibility to the people. He was long a member of the United Brethren in Christ, in which church he always maintained a good report, and enjoyed the confidence of his brethren, and all who knew him. During a few years of his life, (as a matter of convenience) he stood in connexion with the Methodist Episcopal Church, many of whose Ministers have found at the house of Father Lowman, a hearty and cordial reception, and so of all others, who choose to give him a call
As a father he was kind and affectionate, as a husband, tender, as a citizen quiet and peaceable. He lived esteemed, and died regretted by a large community. [2]
