Biography

An Isaac Love, cabman, died on 30 November 1884 at 68 Barrack Stream. He was 61 years old, so born ca 1823.^[1] His wife was the informant and named Mary.

Mary Love died Dec 20, 1885 at 63 years of age, then living at 67 Barrack Stream. She is identified as Isaac Love's widow and on Mary's death certificate he is now listed as a labourer. Her daughter Margaret Connor was present at death. ^[2]

Isaac Love, cab owner, is also listed as father to John Love, Mariner, when John marries Martha Mickels Feb 16, 1864. ^[3]

According to a fabulously detailed investigation into another family, this Isaac was named as a father one or more baptisms over the 1841 to 1844 period at Saint Patricks on Lower Glanmire Road with an address given as Gordon's Cross.

The analysis then states "The standout name here has to be Isaac Love. Love is a relatively uncommon surname in Ireland - also only about 10% of the surname (in the 1901 census) are Catholic. Griffith records that Isaac Love has a house and yard at #24 Gardiner's Hill (also listed as Cambridge Place) which is near the ‘Ashburton Hill' triangle (nowadays the triangle boasts a little grass patch with some shading trees and flowers). Laing's directory of 1863 also lists “Isaac Love, carowner, Ashburton”."^[4]

Manually going through the Saint Patrick's parish registers, I found a baptism of a William Love on 29 March 1842.^[5] Unfortunately, his parents were Isaac Love and Mary Herlihy, not O'Brien.
