Biography

Martha Lord was born around 1667 in Kittery, Maine. Her parents were Nathan Lord and Martha (Everett) Lord[1].

She married Moses Littlefield sometime before 14 December 1687, when the two were presented for fornication in Wells[1]. Records show four children[2]:

1. Aaron (Pierre Augustin), born 20 Oct 1694; married Marie Brunel, lived in Quebec[3]
2. Tabitha, born ca. 1696
3. Ruth, born 23 Jun 1698[2]
4. Moses, baptized 13 June 1708[4]

In 1703, Martha and her three children were taken captive by Indians and brought to Canada. Martha returned home sometime before 1708, but their children remained in Quebec[2].

Moses died in 1714, and Martha married John Abbott on 22 January 1716. After his death around 1719, she married Alexander Taylor on 18 August 1720[1].

Martha died in 1726 in Berwick, Maine[2].

From the Lord family genealogical notes of my great grandfather Isaac Purl Lord (1858-1942), who was a direct descendant of Nathan and spent many years researching the family:

  • Martha (2) m. abt 1685 Moses Littlefield of Wells, York C?o., Maine, son of Thomas Littlefield of same. Had children: Aaron Littlefield, Tabitha Littlefield and perhaps others -- these children were captured by the Indians when quite young and carried to Bourcherville (sic), Canada and finally came into the hands of the Jesuits and were placed in a Convent (see "History of Kennebunk, Maine").
