Liudolf is thought to be the second son of Otto 'der Erlauchte" Duke of Saxony, and his wife Hedwig (Hathui) and he was perhaps born about 872.[1] Liudolf was possibly still alive in 907,[2] but like his elder brother Thankmar, he died before his father; before 30 November 912.
Charles Cawley, lists a son of Liudolf, by an unknown wife, named Ekkehard who was killed in battle on 25 September 936. [3]. Hlawitschka, (as quoted in Cawley) proposed that the early Margraves of Meissen were descended from one of the older brothers of Heinrich, either Liudolf or Thankmar, and Cawley makes another Ekkehard, who died in 954, the possible grandson of Liudolf.
