Biography

Thankmar is thought to be the oldest son of Otto 'der Erlauchte" Duke of Saxony, and his wife Hedwig (Hathui) and he was perhaps born about 870.^[1] Thankmar was possibly still alive in 907,^[2] but he died before his father; before 30 November 912.

Hlawitschka, (as quoted in Cawley) proposed that the early Margraves of Meissen were descended from one of the older brothers of Heinrich, either Liudolf or Thankmar, and Cawley makes Ekkehard, who died in 954, the possible grandson of Liudolf.
