Biography

Since professor Carl Linnæus was granted nobility by the king in 1757 but did not adopt the name von Linné before he was introduced at the House of Nobility in 1761, none of the Linnæus children were born with the name von Linné. The female form, Linnæa, was used for the daughters.[1]

Sara Stina was born 24 January 1751.[2]

Sara Stina von Linné lived mostly at Hammarby with her mother and sisters. They are registered in the household record for Danmark parish from 1774. (Sara Stina has the wrong birth date, 24 january 1753).[3] Sister Sophia married and moved out in 1781.[4]

Sara Christina von Linné married captain Hans Henrik Duse 11 November 1794.[5] He was the younger brother of Sophia's husband. Sara Stina was 43 years old and her husband was 45. They never had any children.

Hans Henrik Duse and Sara Christina von Linné lived at Gränby in Vaksala parish.[6] They also spent much of their time at Linné's Hammarby, to the point of periodically being registered in the household record there.[7]

Captain's widow Sara Stina Duse, born von Linné, died from a stroke 17 January 1835.[8]

Sara Stina Duse is buried in the cemetery Vaksala, Uppsala.
