John of Lexington was born about 1195 in East Retford, Nottinghamshire.
He was a baron and royal official in 13th century England. He has been described as having been Lord Chancellor, but other scholars believe he merely held the royal seals while the office was vacant or the chancellor was abroad. He served two terms, once from 1247 to 1248, and again from 1249 to 1250
He died in 1257 (said to be in Ongar, Essex).
There is a discrepancy between the entries for him on wikipedia [1] and in the Visitations of Nottinghamshire [2]. Wikpedia states that he was the son of Richard, a Royal Judge, whereas the Visitations show him as being the son of John Lexington Lord of Tuxford.
